Advancing Humanitarian Research
Al-Kawthar University hosted a meeting with representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to explore opportunities for academic collaboration, humanitarian research, and policy development through the Justice Dr. Syed Muhammed Anwer Center for Research on Islamic Social Finance (JSMA-CRISF).
The meeting was attended by Honorable Justice Dr. Syed Muhammed Anwer, Chief Justice, Federal Shariat Court, alongside ICRC representatives Mr. Christoph Sutter and Mr. Ziaullah Rahmani. Representing Al-Kawthar University were Dr. Rida Ahmed, Registrar, and Dr. Muhammad Ammad ul Haq, Director, Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC).
Discussions focused on developing collaborative initiatives in education, disaster response research, Islamic social finance, and humanitarian policy dialogue. Proposed initiatives included a certificate course in humanitarian law and the potential introduction of a BS programme in Disaster Management to strengthen academic engagement with humanitarian challenges.
The ICRC also expressed interest in establishing a joint research cluster and facilitating connections between the University and the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Sindh. These potential collaborations aim to encourage interdisciplinary research, strengthen humanitarian knowledge, and explore the application of Islamic social finance models to crisis relief and disaster response.
The meeting marked a step towards exploring institutional collaboration at the intersection of higher education, humanitarian action, and Islamic social finance.
